Help Trans Dipstick Tube Sucking Noise
I have a 08 550i that is using trans fluid but not leaking on my driveway. If you pull the dipstick out you can hear a sucking noise. If you put your finger over it you can feel a vacuum and the engine idle changes a little. Has anyone else noticed this on their car? Any help would be appreciated. also lets out a small puff of smoke from the exhaust when accelerating from a stop

I don't know what dipstick you're referring to, but it can't possibly be the transmission dipstick, as there is no dipstick for the transmission. You are likely removing the engine oil dipstick, hence the loss of engine vacuum and change in idle.

That would explain a lot. Owners manual says check oil with I Drive so I assumed the dipstick was for the trans, Thanks for the reply

Yea, I'm not really sure what you're pulling to be honest. I was always under the impression the N62 used an electronic oil level sensor like the N5X engines did. Maybe someone with a V8 can chime in.

My 2005 545 N62 engine has a dipstick. Its at the back of the engine, near the fire wall on the left hand driver side.
have never seen a low level on my i-drive, probably because I always check my level with the dipstick and top up as necessary, which is very rare.
Salut, Bob P.
