HELP - Sat nav business upgrade rip off
#1
Hi my car has pre loaded a road map europe business sat nav dvd 2003-2 which is in desperate need of an upgrade spoke to the the dealer who says that the software i needed will cost me ?220 and they will also charge an upgrade to the system to enable the new software at a cost of ?130.
I am not paying that!! could buy a tomtom
Bought off ebay a v27 firmware software upgrade and 2006/2007 nav disc and they wont upgrade the dealer stated this is because the software is not from bmw and the model car (5 series) has 2 nav systems which need to be updated in the workshop.
Dont really believe hes telling me the truth as other members seem to have updated their systems without any problems.
can you help

Cant understand why you need to upgrade your software to make use of the new maps (which again cost as much as your dealer says they are) unless your CIP is so old that it will not recognise the new DVDs.
You have very little choice in the matter. Shop around to find the cheapest CIP upgrade and then 'look' hard for a new DVD.

Unfortunately the dealer is correct about the v27 firmware. First of all you got ripped off buying that off ebay because its available freely to download! Secondly that's from the high edition found in the X5 etc and not the 3 and 5 series.

thanks for that. Just had another strange call from bmw customer services who were supposed to be calling me back yesterday they stated that i just need to purchase a 2006-1 navtech dvd the cost of which is ?130. Asked why the price difference from the dealer and they did not know nor did they know what the dealer was going on about upgrading software.

My car wouldn't read the 2006-1 DVD but could cope with the 2005-1 version. I got a CIP upgrade - reason - it wasn't displaying the radio station RDS names on the FM Preselect screen, to version 23. After this it can read the 2006-1 map DVD. All this was free and at a different dealer than the one where I bought my car - but my car has the 5 year service pack so maybe this is a factor.
