So my car is in the body shop and they have been running it with low fuel and it finally ran out. So they went to go get gas and now the car wont start. It cranks but just wont start. I checked all the fuses and there all good. Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

Had a same issue, Air trapping. With me, I just cranked it couple more times....then battery died. A frined of mine towed the car up hill with his 4 runner. (With Belt)

Mine us manual so I put it in 2nd gear while coming down the hill and after some tries it worked.

Check engine light had came on ut went away as soon as engine started

HTH

When you turn the key on, but don't start the engine, do you hear the fuel pump running?
It should pressure up then stop. Try that cycle several times if you haven't already.
Also. I've read in a post about the "fuel pump purge" noise that occurs when you close the
door after stopping the engine and getting out of the car. My car makes that noise.
If the pump has run dry for an extended period it may be damaged.

Most cars have a safety fuel cutoff sensor that stops the pump in case of an accident. Maybe this was activated at the body shop.
Not sure how to reset this on a BMW.

I'm puzzled too. Keep us posted on the repair. We all need to learn.

Air in the fuel line was (maybe still is) a problem for diesels but, the pump cycling the others suggested should have worked.
