I got a computer printout from my dealer showing me a bunch of numbers (I asked for the SW version), yet I don't see anything that makes sense. Did the tech print out the wrong thing? What SHOULD it look like?

Here's how it reads:

Diagnosis Control unit functions

Control Modules

CON Controller -> Identification

Message and results

BMW Part number 6941801
Coding index 0
Date of manufacture (DD.MM.YYYY) 23.01.2003
Diagnosis index 2034
Hardware number 05
Supplier Alps
Function software 5.0.4
Message catalog 0.9.143
Operating software 3.3.0

Is operating software the one? But 3.3.0?? Is that really 13.3? Or did the tech print out the wrong Control module? Which one should it be and how should it read, so I can be there with him when he does it Monday?

Also what IS the above? Alps? OS 3.3.0?? Plus my car was built in late Nov., so what's with that 2003 date of manufacture??

Thanks!

From that printout, you can't tell what CIP software version you have. I'm not sure but that printout looks like it's related to one specific control module. I believe "Alps" is a company that manufactures this part, the different version numbers relate to the module itself, and the date of manufacture is most likely for the module as well -- not the car...

Yeah, it looks wrong, but what SHOULD the printout look like? It looks like I'll have to tell the service guy myself! Does anyone have a prinout they can scan in? Or just tell me what to look for.

It seems that everyone here knows their SW version, yet nobody can tell me what to look for? Do you just get it told verbally and no printout with any variables, keywords, etc. that I can tell my dealer to look for? Please!

Your signature indicates that you know yours too. I have been taking my dealers word for it and making it a point to ask them each time.

I'm scanning in mine with the CIP ver. 15.0 for another member tomorrow when I pick it up from the office. I'll post a copy here as well.

My sig could be wrong - I assumed it was 13.3 due to the line that says 3.3.0 and asked before but got no answer. I will updated it as soon as I really know. I wouldn't trust my dealer to tell me the version. How can anyone really? I trust a printout.

kscarrol,

That would be great if you can post the scan here. Thanks!

I got my car back yesterday from my dealer for the emission and heated seat recalls. I want to see if they gave me version 15 (I forgot to ask the service guy). I know how to get into the secret iDrive menu but I can't find any thing in there that looks like a version number. Does anybody know where to find the version in this menu?

BTW, since this upgrade I noticed that in the climate control section of the iDrive, I no longer have the automatic air distribution setting available in the ventilation settings section.

Just ask your dealer to confirm your "CIP" software version. They should know how to determine that. (They might have to plug your car into the DIS programmer to get a reading if they don't have it on record somewhere.)

My SA did not have a clue as to which version they installed on mine last time. Neither did SA understand the significance of no NAV info in the HUD screen. Further, I had to explain what my missing PDC screen looked like to the BMW NA rep that called me about the Lemon Law on Friday. No wonder my car is screwed. Sigh.
