I really like LR's, but I'm not a fan of the HSE.
The xi should give you that all-wheel you were looking for to climb all those mountains for work! And with another 530, you are already familiar with the car, know how to service it, and where to get new mods...
Even if you don't go the BMW route, please do stay in touch. We should arrange something in the near future to get together.

When I was deciding on a car, it came down to an LR3 or a 5 Series. As you can see I went with the 5 Series. I chose the 5 because it got double the gas mileage the LR gets, it looks better, its cooler, less "plasticey" looking on the inside, we probably did end up getting a better deal from the BMW dealership on the 5 as well. The real reason I wanted the LR3 was to tow our boat to the lake, but decided the X5 does that just fine. Also gas mileage was a factor, it was crap on the LR3. I'm very happy with my 5, getting 30mpg while doing 80 on the highway. I also knew that LR's weren't the most reliable cars ever...The 5 is a lot of fun to drive, I never drove a LR3 but I would imagine it is less fun considering how big and boxy it is. If you are not really going to go off road it probably isnt super useful. If you are hauling a lot of people and gear it might be a better suit. But the trunk in the 5 is huge as you know. I'd go with the 5er.

Had a Land Rover......don?t do it. Really. Had it for a short time because it continually left me stranded and it was only a year old when I bought it. The dealership called it ?character flaws."

I like the Landrovers, but only if its the RR Sport. Unless you need the ground clearance or cargo room, stick with the 5 Series.
