Help. L/100 km meter acting funny.
Hi, just want to know if you guys have noticed the following regarding the l/100km meter under the tach. Mine started acting funny a couple of months ago and I've brought it into the dealer and they are saying it's normal. The thing it does is while i'm gassing up it acts as normal as you press on the accelerator the needle would shift to the right towards the 20 limit. once you let go of the gas, it goes back down to 0 on the left. My issue is after I let go of the gas, the needle goes to 0 but as the vehicle slows to a stop but before it fully stops, the needle shifts back to the right between 10 and 15 and once the vehicle comes to a complete stop, the needle will shift back all the way left to 0. I swear that my vehicle did not do this before and ever since it started I noticed the km per tank has gone down from over 600 to 450-500. The dealer tells me that it's because of the winter months but that seems to be quite a big difference. Now, to be fair, the dealer is explaining that when the car downshifts, the needle will go back up but I'm sure that at that slow speed, all the downshifting has already been done and the l/ 100 km should not go back up if i'm not pressing on the gas.
The dealer will let me drive a tester 5 series tomorrow to show me that it is normal so we'll see but it's very strange that mine did not do this before.
Please let me know if you guys have any thoughts. Thanks.

Mine does exactly what you described as a worry/problem. My previous 325i also did the exact same thing. As the car downshifts to a stop the gas consumption momentarily increases. This is very normal.
Virtually every car gets worse gas mileage in cold climates due to the warmup period (higher engine revs to heat up catalytic converter faster).

Just think of it as if you would roll 100 km without pressing the pedal, so just on tick-over.
You would need 10 to 15 liters or something like that on the time it would take.
So, yes it is normal.

Thanks guys. My friend's 2008 bmw 3 series doesn't do it and when i brought it in to the dealer to get checked they told me it is normal but that bmw did change it in the last couple of years cause a lot of people were complaining about it. So in the newer bmws, once you let go of the gas the gauge swings all the way to the left and stays there until the vehicle comes to a stop but for bmws made before 2008 i believe, it will do what mine does. Thanks everyone.
