hi there i have a 530i m sport 2005 with 62k miles. I have noticed a whining sound for couple of months but in the past week its got really load, i thought it was the belt tensioner i have changed both the tensioner & idle pulley near alternator was worn. so fittted new parts and stil seams to be there only at one side now the left side of the engine. it seams to be the A/C compressor. has anyone had this problem? the whining is always there, when rpm is higher its loader. can u change the bearnings in the compressor or is it best to buy new? i know its not going to be cheap. can u buy a drive belt without A/C? mine is one belt that drives all the auxiliarys, iv notices some engines have two. will spraying WD-40 into the pulley help? do you think a new belt mine help?

thanks

if its the ac compressor bearings, then you just have to replace it. have you taken the belt off and spun each of the accessories to see if something doesnt sound right?

yes i started the car for 20secounds without belt and it sounds great. i did spin each pulley and they all seam ok, i noited they is alot of posts with A/C whining but theres seams to stop when turned off. mine is there all the time on of off. i never use A/C maybe thats not done it much good. it still works and give cold air.

you could buy a engine stethoscope to determine exactly where the sound is coming from.

I recently had to replace AC compressor... costed me $844 installed. I think mines started off making a whining sound, and then it started ticking like crazy.
