Typically, plastic pan is NOT the cause, nor the gasket on the plastic pan. O-rings on the trans sleeve (electrical connector to the transmission) is the culprit. Good news is that it's a known issue and can be replaced along with the trans pan+filter+fluid. Think of it as trans service :-)

I have an update. For many, these stories don't come that often (me included). Though my CPO warranty expired last month, my advisor (I have always taken my car there the last 4 years it was under warranty & service) told me today that BMW will take care of the transmission leak fix. I will get my car back tomorrow.
I requested him to use fresh transmission oil (not re-use old, which is per TIS spec that I have seen on the web). Once I get the car back, I will know. But for now, I am very happy with my advisor and BMW. Great job - you got a loyal customer here.

cheers

Leak from the mechatronic sleeve - received the same news from the dealer earlier in the month. Estimated cost to fix leak and replace the plastic oil pan in my case: $778.00

Not sure how many miles you have on your car, but pay extra and get all of the fluid changed while they have it open. They'll just put your old fluid back in for your quoted price...

Have 530 i 52,200 mi - CPO 100,000 mi 6 yr. But over 6yrs. Transmission leaking, BMW refuses to cover repair.
Common gasket failure according to several several BMW Mechanics.

LIFETIME FLUID -But just over 50,000 mi gasket failure is common.
BMW should be embarased and make good on the leak which is only from a BMW defect.

I like the car, but it should only require the regular maintaince work.

It costs more to sell a new customer than to keep a satisfied customer that will promote BMW's.

It's actually a ZF defect. BMW didn't manufacture the transmission. If you're out of warranty, you're out of warranty.

This must be your first BMW. This is an unrealistic expectation. Not to be rude, but if this is your expectation, you should buy a Lexus or Acura as your next car. BMWs are maintanance pigs, especially when they start to age. Always have been, always will be. It's like owning a boat.
