Post HELP! DBC, Drive control system, Servotronic, Start Assist Inactive Failures!

Hi everyone

I am really hoping someone will be able to help me out.

My E60 started to display the following errors;

DBC failure – DTC cannot be used
Drive control system!
Start Assist Inactive
Windscreen wiper fault – resulting in the wipers not turning off
Servotronic Failure – Power steering switches off

These error messages have been intermittent. Sometimes I can drive for miles with no errors, and other times they appear just by starting the car.
When they come on, they appear all at the same time.

Firstly, I gave the car to Eurofit, who plugged it into their systems and then informed me that they are unable to diagnose the fault as they did not have the technology to further diagnose…

So I handled car to BMW. They ran a diagnosis, and told me they located 36 faults. It would take them 4 hours to find the route cause which would cost £180 per hour… I freaked and got the car back from them (which was probably a mistake looking back now).

I then gave the car over to a garage, who apparently was meant to be BMW specialists... They could not find the fault, so they sent the ECU and the BCM modules to BBA Reman.

BBA Reman literally took the p1ss. It took them 3 weeks to test the modules, to then inform me that they could not find anything. I had to call them almost every day to try and get them to get some movement with the tests.

They sent the ECU and BCM back, which then became was lost in the post! I eventually got all the parts back to the garage. After they connected it all up, they informed me that they had managed to ‘fix’ the problem… Apparently someone had deliberately cut some wiring where the BCM module lives… I knew that was nonsense as the car being disconnected from the battery had cleared out all the faults from the system. I was just relieved to have the car back in my possession.
I had an after sales warranty, which expired because of all this delay, and they refused to cover anything as nothing was reported as faulty within the warranty period!

When I got the car home, I inspected it to find that the rear passenger side foot well was 1inch deep full of water and the front passenger foot well wet and damp… After reading up online – I found out that I had a leak coming through the door seals.

I handed car to another garage that connected it all up to their systems, and found no problems. They checked the door seals and spotted that there was a leak. They replaced the rubbers around the door edges on the rear passenger side. I had car serviced and MOT passed, no advisories.

Unfortunately, 1 week later the problems all eventually re-occurred.

This time, the latest and in addition to the above have been;

Ignition Failure
Restraint Systems Failure

After spending hours upon hours on forums and researching, I tried by replacing the DDE Relay and the Terminal 30g Relay. This resolved nothing, but it was worth trying as both parts only cost £25, and I got to verify for myself that both ECU boxes are bone dry and water free.

Finally, I took the car on Saturday to someone who seems to know what he is doing, and has been recommended throughout the forums.. He connected my car to the AutoLogic system? and it pointed out that there was something faulty along on the CAN BUS.

However, at the time of taking the car to him, there were no faults showing on the iDrive – arrhh! The garage owner, instead of burning a hole in my pocket, informed me to come back when all the faults reappear, else he could take days running tests and rack up a giant bill.

I won’t be able to take the car to him until the weekend now, and I don’t know if I can get the faults to occur. Whether they appear or not, I think I will hand the car over to him regardless.

However, I am intrigued by the water leak, as he mentioned that there are modules under the passenger seat?

Has anyone heard of any of these issues, or knows if any of the modules under the passenger seat could be responsible?

Any ideas/help or suggestions would be awesome!

Apologies for the super long post

Thumbs down Update

Indy cannot diagnose the true fault of the problem...

I tried the Steering Wheel Angle sensor fix this weekend... no joy
Steering angle sensor DIY fix - it worked - BMW M5 Forum and M6 Forums

Tried a different key - errors came back.

Took car to halfords for a battery and alternator check - everything perfect there

On the verge of getting rid of this heap of junk. Will never buy BMW again!
