A couple of weeks ago, I-drive indicated my right fron parking lamp was out. A couple of days ago, I-drive indicated that I now have a low beam out as well. I've been searching to determine the correct part for the low beam and there are so many choices. I call the dealer and they want $221 for a xenon bulb but did not provide the part number. Two local independent shops are asking 200 and 300. Finally, I checked with a couple of online part stores and they want $100 or even 80 (pelicanparts).

For my 2005 530 with xenon adaptive headlights:

Which bulb do I need and where is the best place to buy it? Why such varying prices? Are they not looking at the same part?

Can I change it myself?

Thanks,

Matt

If I recall previous posts about xenon replacements, there are 2 possible part numbers. So, you should remove the defective bulbs and make sure you get the same part number.

Search for the DIY - it shouldn't be difficult. Buy the replacement parts that match yours - some have reported slight variations in "color" that adjust over time.

Edited - replacement instruction attached:

Do it yourself. I made a mistake taking it to dealership. Type of bulb is on the bulb itself D1S or D2S. By the way I had the same sequence of events, first park lamp warning than low beam, when I changed the low beam bulb warning for park lamp also cleared.

Thanks....I did check and it is D2S. I'm not a DIY'er typically, but I'll crack the hood tonight and see what it looks like. If anything, I can buy the bulb myself and have the local non-dealer shop install it.

Are you saying you didn't even need to change the park lamp once you added a new low beam?

Thanks!

I am not sure how hard to take it out from the light housing will be in e60. I did mine for an e39, e39 use Philips D2S bulb. You can find some good deal in ebay for a almost new Philips D2S. A lot of folks swap their OEM to more "blue" one... the old one goes to ebay.

Simon.

I am on my way to L.A. From dallas texas for vacation And my right xenon burned out. If you still have any spare bulb then I would greatly appreciate it. It's Sunday today and I know I have nowhere to buy the bulb replacement. After driving 1500 miles and this happened. I am suppose to enjoy my vacation in Cali now I have this problem to fix.

By the way, do I have to remove the right headlight just to replace the bulb?

Pm me where ur located. I will be around L.A. Today Sunday and tomorrow.

Are you sure it's the bulb and not the ballast? HID D2S bulbs have a longer lifespan than the ballast that drives them. This is why you were quoted $200+ by the dealer. You can probably find the ballast cheaper on-line though.
