welcome aboard, the g-man ! i'll take the 545 since it has a new body style. m5 is a very nice and powerful car but imo it looks outdated now. i agree with all the posts above. test drive both and see what you want/need .

I would say it is a better idea to get the newer car.

It will have longer lasting residual value, I would venture to guess.

Faced the same decision and while content with the car, I do wish for more power every now and then.

Not sure about actual maintenance costs, but I don't see why an e39 M5 could not be daily driven.

A regular e39 looks outdated compared to an e60, but e39s with the m-sport kit and some 19s will always look good in my book. I do admire the lines of my silver e60, but sometimes I see other silver e60s on the street and don't like them too much....I don't know.

There's no issue there at all - other than increased fuel costs, my M5 isn't very expensive to run at all.

As I said, had 3 clutches, but at ?400 fitted, they're not *that* expensive, and two were under warranty anyway (I let the warranty lapse as it's so reliable and cheap to maintain now - all the VANOS etc problems ironed out within warranty).

Welcome The G-Man!

That is soooo difficult question! What would I do? Hmm... I ,like many other men, am like a brat some times and then I certainly would like e39 M5, but when going to meetings or pick up customers from airport then e60.

Now owning e60 and have it only car, I would buy e60!!

Actually I have been looking e39 M5 from Germany. Prices start from 10-12k? and condition would not be an issue, because it anyway would be my toy and second car.
