Default Help! Bilstein B8 Sports - Rear

Good Morning All,

I am getting ready to install the Bilstein B8 Sports on the rear of my 2004 BMW 545i. The one thing I am not sure of is do I need to install Bump Stops? I know I did not need to install bump stops on the front as they are internal. Are bump stops needed for the rear? I quick search yielded a 50/50 answer. Can anyone who has installed the Bilstein Sports confirm please?

yes, you need bumpstops for the rear dampers, the internal bump stops are only on the front dampers.

I have B8s on my 530i.

I put B8's on both ends - and the rears came with bump stops on the damper.

Yours didn't??

yes, they did. I still trimmed them down a bit. The fronts have an internal bumpstop, the rears don't. I think that's what OP wanted to confirm. The rear B8s do not have an internal bumpstop.

Thanks guys! I didn't have a chance to open up the boxes. I will double check when I get home tonight.

KyleB,

Why did you trim them down and how much did you trim off? Is this necessary?

In all honesty I can't remember if the Bilsteins came with bumpstops in the box. But you definitely do need to have bumpstops installed on the rear dampers.

I trimmed them down because I paired the B8s with Eibachs, and they looked a bit long to me. If you're not changing springs what I would do is just transfer the bumpstops that are on your OEM shocks over to the Bilsteins.

Hope this thread answered your questions, good luck with your car.

How did you get the three studs to align up in the rear shock tower, it's a bitch to see the studs from in the trunk!
