I ran over a rock the size of a fist today and all of a sudden my active steering warning light went on. Then I went home and shut the car off, waited a few minutes, and the warning shut off, so does this mean the problem went away? or do I still have to get it checked out at the dealer? I drove it around afterwards on some twisties and it seemed fine to me.

You are probably OK. You set off a sensor which must have reset itself.

Make sure that you don't have any fluid leaking. There is not a lot of fluid in the steering rack but you could have punctured something. If the warning comes back bring it in right away. I had my steering rack go at just around 1,200 miles and it took a while for it to be shipped from Germany and installed. My problem was a defective casting (there were a few 545's and 645's around the same time frame that were affected). Mine was out of service for 8 days.
