my engine oil light is on and i just changed my oil like 3k miles ago. i think i just need to replace some oil in the car. what kind of oil do i use? there were so many diff kind when i looked. should i just get another oil change? whats a cheap method ?

Yea chill out. Its normal to add some oil once in a while. As a side note, I noticed you said you had an oil change 3k miles ago. I wouldn't recommend waiting for the BMW recommended 15k mile mark to change the oil again. I would change synthetic at 5k miles regardless of the make and model of the car, and conventional oil at 3k miles.

Also catrol 5w 30 is NOT the right one--EURO castrol 5w 30=bmw 5w30 or mobile 1 0w40
Also there is NO need to change the oil every 5k--if you use bmw or the listed oils above-they are signifigantly longer lasting then others and part of our engine oil montoring monitors the current being passed through the oil which changes when the engine oil breaks down its protectants-so it monitors for that but even if it didnt 7500 at the MOST is how often you need it changed-I go for 7500-10000. 15000 if you do rare hard driving is fine--I own the car and for 99 bucks that my dealer charges I go for the 10k
oil today is not oil of yesterday-especially the euro/bimmer oil
