I have '04 545iA Sport Pkg with 20,600 miles and it slightly shakes/jitters when the car is on and either in Park or Drive. The feeling is almost like it either needs a tune up or to change the spark plugs or something. It does not matter if the car is hot or cold. Also, if you look closely the idle slightly fluctuates up and down. It does not appear to be that apparent when the car is driven for about one hour or so. However, it is there if you focus it.

I took my car last week to the dealer and they had the car for almost a week and they said the car is normal. They updated software and changed a control module. 2 techs drove the car for over 1/2 hour and both said the car is fine and normal. They said when they hooked the car up to their computer it did not give any false codes/readings.

Does anyone with a '04 545iA share this shake/jitter and the idle fluctuation also?? Is it really normal on '04 545iA? Please advise ASAP. I am planning to take the car back to the dealer next week. Thank you!

I had a similar problem in my '06 550 with only 600 miles. Took it to the dealer yesterday and took them the whole day to find out it was a faulty fuel injector.

One question. do you idle often in your car? say waiting a lot in traffic lights or leave your car running for long periods of time when you are waiting for someone?

I've got the same problem with my car.Now I only get about 12-14 mpg,so they can't tell me it's normal anymore.I've only got 13,300 miles on my baby.

Wow, only 12-14 mpg? Are you flooring it at every departure? I get as high as 19.9 mpg with average speed of 34 mph.

Whats sad is I get even less on the highway.

Hi there, no i don't idle my car often. If I do it is only to warm it up for a few minutes especially in the morning. I don't encounter that much traffic here and I don't leave my car idleing if I am waiting for someone. Thanks.

Ok The reason I ask is BMW had some bad valvetronic levers between 06/04 and 02/05. And if you idle a lot it will prematurely wear out those valves causing rough idle. Unfortuently my car was built in this time period too. I would hate for these valves to wear out right when my warranty is up. My car is idling fine right now.

Wow, I didn't know they had that issue for that long. My friends X5 which was produced in 12/04 had/has this issue. They ended up replacing both heads and yet he still gets it occasionally. It drives him nuts! But it happens so rarely now the dealer can't reproduce.
