Hello, new 520D owner : USB question.
Evening all,
After 5 years (or more !!), I am back to BMW ownership.
Purchasing a late 2007 (October) 520D SE, 71k miles on it - purring like a kitten, stunning car, stunning drive.
One thing I am completely underwhelmed by is the ICE options which have come with it, no sat-nav, no disc-changer, no usb ports, all I have is a single disc headunit (which is mp3 compatible thank goodness), bluetooth connectivity, and an aux port located in the worst possible place (behind centre console facing rear seats).
I have been on another website to see what options came with my car, and are listed below.
As I would like to have USB connectivity options in order to play mp3's from a memory stick/usb HDD, what is the cheapest/easiest option considering the options which came with the car. A BMW USB retrofit, or maybe on of the Dension gateway devices ?
As I don't know my way around the BMW in terms of what options are needed to accomplish my goal, I thought I might ask the knowledgeable folks here.
Any other useful info you could tell me about the car, I would be eternally grateful.
I have ordered a K+DCan cable, and have Inpa, ISTA D etc..., I am a computer technician by trade, so am not averse to configuring/enabling things via diagnostic software.

As a newbie, the dilemma you face and the questions you have are common and have been discussed extensively on the forum. If you do a search using "USB", "stream music", "Bluetooth", "Dension Gateway", etc. as keywords, a number of discussions with suggestions have been posted. Many seem to be drifting away from CDs, iPods and flash drives, instead opting for Bluetooth streaming, and there are inexpensive options for that.
