Use the hidden OBC functions to see what your real coolant temperature is and go from there... http://www.scoopz.com/m5board/E60_Hi...structions.pdf

It's just the way BMW designed their heater. The front facing vents only shoot out luke warm air so I just diverted more air to the dash vents and lower vents and that usually gets the air in the car warmer. I also thought it was my thermostat so I replaced it and it felt the same after. Coolant temps were normal too. Just have to live with it.

My Ride: 2004 BMW 530i - no mods. Pretty basic really. I mean it has tires, windows, and a sweet look, what more could a man want? Honestly, I'd like to improve the sound system mildly, and possibly find a worthy engine mod that would increase my BHP by 100 without giving an arm and a leg for. I don't think it's out there, so I'll stay stock and love driving my 530i.

Had this problem last year, ended up being the thermostat and It was covered under CPO. Though mine wasn't a matter of it just not getting warm. In fact it would get warm if I were at a traffic light or stopped. Then once I started driving it would get cold again. Stop and the same thing... Thermostat was stuck in the open position and thus replaced.

Problem solved!!! Was the thermostat!!! Convinced the local dealer to sell me one at $95 ish....install no big deal. Did the earl change too while I was at it. Reset the oil life...all is well. Thanks a lot guys. Liking this forum a lot. Getting close to the 60k service. At this point, brakes are done, brake fluid, oil, thermostat, belt and tires. What else am I missing for 60k service???

I'd start thinking about changing out the transmission oil. I changed that and the differential at about 60K. Check the bushings on the control arms (tension strut) on the front axle. Mine were cracked when I got the car with 37k.
