Have had the car for a week now and noticed that either on heater or defrost...when temp set to max....air will not get past luke warm. Even if set for over 30 mins. What could it be? Since there's no temp gauge I'm wondering if it's the thermostat? Car has 50k miles. My a8 was prone to themostat failure around 50k...what's the story with these cars? BTW, no clickin noises under dash when adjusting settings (was asked if I had this by a local tech). Also, no check engine codes. Thanks guys.

Adjust the temp in the idrive, you can max the heat out to 3 or 4 red bars on the screen. It will get hot then...

ya same thing in my car (but i live in FL so not as important). i love my car; but i've got to say the A/C and heating system has got to be the most asinine thing ever. in my old honda i had a dial. i set it to 60 degrees, it cooled the car to 60 degrees. i moved it to 80, it heated the car to 80. in my bmw if i want full cooling, i need to move to 60 degrees and then go into the idrive and move to full blue bars. opposite with the heat. why cant it just adjust it automatically based on what temp i set the knob too?? and ya, even if i set it to full red bars it does not get as hot as my accord used to.. go figure..

A simple issue could be a vacuum hose disconnected. The car uses a lot of them to operate actuators that affect engine components and heating. Just an idea....

i agree, i think the a/c is the most overly complicated pos design ever.
theres nothing more annoying than going from a hot day, blue bars frosty symbol and 80 degrees thermostat
to a cold night...etc etc...
overly layered menu style. i was happy with the plain jane dials my Ford had. haha.

I remember back in like 01 when i got my first BMW, it was CPO and I took back to dealer because the car's AC wouldn't get below 59 Degrees F. LOL I was a newbie and digital was new to me. The infrared thermometer read it blowing 34 degrees F. When I was leaving, the SA walked me to my car and all the windows were going down and then the sunroof too. I was like, what about that???? He asked where my key was....in my back pocket being smashed by my wallet. He told me to read the owners manual. And then schooled me on opening closing windows with key. LOL...I felt embarrassed. This HVAC also gave me issues on how to control it but I figured it out.

Hmmm....good idea. Any one in particular? I haven't really looked around too much under the hood. Is there a common one that often comes off?
