If you go to the climate settings in your idrive you will see the fan speed setting. If the color is blue it will put out cold air, so turn the controller until it goes to the red fan settings and you will get warm air. hope this helps!

On a related note, BMW has studied a lot of data, and it is suggested that a driver is more likely to be alert if their upper body is slightly colder than the rest of their body. So, it is not suprising that the climate system is biased in this way.
I much prefered the "non advanced" air conditioning on my last E60. It didn't look as good, but it was much more customisable.
I have found that sitting on a sharp rusty spike makes you more alert than sitting on leather 20-way comfort seats, will that be next??

I've tweaked the heater settings and still cannot get the middle vents to shoot out HOT air FAST. The car itself gets quite warm, but when it's really cold, I like to drive with the windows open (I love the cold fresh air), but like to have the vents blasting hot air. I just can't get the car to do this?! I have everything turn up to "red", have the setting on "intensive", it's like I'm missing something really basic ...
I know I shouldn't have to, but I do. And no, the car doesn't steam up.
