2005 545i 6mt 36k miles

when i open the door on my car after it sits for a day or two i hear a pump cycle on and off, i think its the fuel pump since it sounds like its coming from the back of the car.

is this normal....or it it yet another gremlin to add to my list?

that's your car waking up . people get freaked out when they hear my car and know nothing about BMW's. if you turn off you car and wait for a few minutes you will hear some of the modules goin "to sleep".

Perfectly normal. The loudest noise comes from the fuel pump being primed.

does your car do the same thing? you hear a pump cycle when it wakes up? is that the fuel pump pressurizing the system so it will start quickly?

Yes, that's exactly what it does, and yes, my car does the same thing. My E46 does it when I turn the key to position 2, while my E60 does it the instant I unlock the door.

My car just started to do it. 2006 550. The CD player was replaced, and they must of updated all the software. I never noticed the sound prior to this update. The update also allows the radio to dispay radio station call signs, artists and song names.

It's alive... It's alive...

The beamers are always awake and ready. Like a dog waiting for its owner to come home and play.
