I would expect the engineers who came up with active steering, DSC, I-drive and the M5 to be able to design a lighting unit in such a way that the heat gets out and the water doesn't get in. I think they did.
Nope, they didn't. And it's not water coming in, that would be real bad.
Anyways, it's "fixed" on yours, so be happy, there are thousands of other BMW's whith this "problem".

The only reason I noticed mine had condensation was because only "one" headlight housing was affected. So the dealer replaced it. I guess if I had "two" of them doing it, I would have thought it was "normal." In any case, condensation "should not" last for days. If there's a way in, there should be a way "quickly out", say . . . after a day max. Otherwise, you have a defect and not normal.

Hi Iceman

I don't want to flog this topic to death but in my case it wasn't moisture from the air but droplets forming immediately after washing the car with a Kaercher jet wash so I think there must have been a bad seal. Maybe this is what Manilae60 has too yet were assuming it's the more minor issue

and yes I'm happy

now if only I can get rid of the window antitrap message and get my bluetooth to work with my Blackberry again I will be a truly happy bunny.

Do any of you know if we can open the headlight case without breaking it?

I assume you mean from the front, and get access to the reflectors. AFAIK, no. Both halogen and Xenon are sealed units (from the front) on the E60. The adhesive they use can be removed by baking the headlight, but I'd say reliability afterwards is controversial to say the least; there's a few threads on this topic in the mods forum

If you had an E39 then yes. Very easy to do - not everything was necessarily improved from E39 to E60...
(last sentence edited after I re-read your sig - it's clearly an E60)

Now THAT'S a different story.
Then I agree, in your case there was a defect.
dlevi67 allready came to the right conclusion in the previous post.
We were talking about two different things here.
