Its fairly normal to me. But if its like water in the headlights, then definitely something is wrong, but if its just condensation then it'll go away after about 30 minute drive with lights on.... No worries..

Yep, everything normal. Has been reported from E60 drivers all around the world, nothing to worry about.

IMHO it's not normal for this to be happening and if I were you I'd insist the dealer fixes it otherwise three years down the road when you're out of warranty and the reflectors on your lights are matted you'll see that it is a problem. I had slight condensation in one of the headlights and it was replaced under warranty. The new one is dry as a bone.

I live in Asia and have this all the time. Its (like Iceman said) normal. Send it to the dealer if you like, but you'll be wasting your time. The headlight unit needs to breathe because of the heat buildup by the xenons, etc.

I live in Houston, Texas (USA) and it's pretty damn humid most of the year. My headlights have never condensated . . . . except for the time that it was defective and the condensation never went away. So the dealer replaced the whole light housing.

If your lights condensate and it goes away quickly (within a day), then you're probably OK. But if it condensates and takes longer (mine took 3+ days), then something it wrong because it is condensating where it should not.

I considered the effect I had with tiny water beads on the inside of the light housing forming after rain or jet washing and remaining there for several days NOT normal. I didn't have it on cars for much fewer shekels and from much less worthy manufacturers so I certainly didn't want it on Munich's finest. My dealer agreed and the new light assembly doesn't suffer from this effect and is totally dry in all conditions including driving for several hours in torrential rain and blasting the light with a pressure washer.

It has nothing to do with the price of the car. It has to do with the Xenons. They get so hot, the housing needs to be open. It's built this way, and if it's dry now, then you're just having luck.

I don't see where the luck comes to play. As far as I'm concerned I had a problem which was fully fixed under warranty.

I would expect the engineers who came up with active steering, DSC, I-drive and the M5 to be able to design a lighting unit in such a way that the heat gets out and the water doesn't get in. I think they did.
