Standard wattage is 55w, allegedly, you can go a little higher (70w) but increase the risk of the i-drive warnings being triggered.
Please do not go for more than 55W bulps.

70W bulps can melt down the plastics in the cluster and for sure will damage the reflectors.
You see, most of the light efficency (55 ->70W) goes to heat, not lighting effect.

But as earier said, there are 55W lamps with better output and kind of a bluish light.

Check Philips and Osram sites here in the EU.

Xenons are two times better but very expensive to retrofit, because you need to change
to whole light cluster, see ie Hella's site.

Is this what people are putting in, non Xenon cars? Do they add more light to just low beams?

Predator ICE? - OE Upgrade Angel Eyes (Choose Model)
[PICE]

This product was added to our catalog on Saturday 01 July, 2006.
Item Price
was $249.99 lowered to $199.99
I think I'm going in a different direction..I'm talking about a full complete XENON retrofit not just a bulb. The easiest thing would be to add better halogen bulbs or purchase an after market HID/xenon kit. My examples below are for a COMPLETE xenon retrofit.

Predator ICE is to replace the Angel Eyes bulbs already on Xenon headlights..its not what you are looking for.

BTW xenon headlights and halogen headlights both have angel eyes.

for a FULL retrofit:

You basically need to replace both your entire headlight assemblies.

The official BMW retrofit is: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=...hg=63&fg=95 or you can buy it from roveractive over at EBAY ( http://item.express.ebay.com/Vehicle-Parts...cmdZExpressItem )

I personally had no luck with my dealer when I tried purchasing it..they either did not want to install it and claimed it was a Euro only retrofit (which was bs). I ended up retrofitting it myself.
