Headlight Up/Down feature (Self Leveling) not working

Recently, I noticed that the headlight (xenon) up/down feature (self leveling) during start of the car not seem working. Headlight beam did not go up & down, it just stayed at one level. Any suggestion what to look for ?

Thanks,

Ching-Ho Cheng

No blinking, solid green.

Thanks.

Is it supposed to go up/down. Upon startup, mine go from left to right.

If it has an issue the light should be blinking. Mine has been blinking for about a year. Troubleshooting has been a headache and I gave up.

If yours is not blinking then it doesn't see an issue with the modules.

Yes, it is supposed to do that during startup, kind of a self check. This is the auto leveling feature and this is a common feature now in most of the high end cars.

If that is the case then what else could go wrong and cause auto leveling not working during start up ?

Thanks.

Not sure. But on mine, if I have the headlights "ON" vs "AUTO", they don't steer with the front wheels. Otherwise, they do the up/down when starting, then side-side.

The motors or broken guides

seanjordan20 02-19-2019 08:59 AM

The system is checking itself when starting. If it sees something wrong it will start flashing on the selector panel

lcc014 02-19-2019 09:25 AM

I will check the linkage first, thank you.

If you have INPA you can test your lights manually. Also it will tell you if anything is wrong

That is good; any instruction for that ?

Thanks.

I can open up INPA and write down instructions. When I did it I just played with it until I got to where I needed.

I would appreciate if you could provide the instruction.

Thanks.

You will have to go into the E60 menu then click on Body. Once on Body look to the right and you should have a selection for adaptive lift control. Click on it and from there you can test your light up and down left to right.

Get it, thank you so much. :)

Razzy530 02-22-2019 08:00 AM

it might be the leveling sensor

lcc014 02-22-2019 05:59 PM

Do you know how to check sensor ?

Thanks.

seanjordan20 02-22-2019 06:07 PM

If you have a reader that reads the output you can check it that way or just physically check by looking under you car

Wouldn't the sensor give a green flashing light at the light switch?

Not necessarily because there are multiple things that can cause the light to flash. I'm asking does a bad sensor cause the light to flash.

lcc014 02-23-2019 02:21 PM

I see....

Open up the headlight assembly, and look for exposed wires.
