I have a 2009 528I. The angel eye has fallen out of its socket/bracket. Forgive me please, as I am a female. The angel eye is just hanging in, but the wires are all still connected and it does work. I need to get it inspected this week and not knowing if it will pass this way, my question is how to remove the lens cover from the housing so the angel eye can be put back (if that's possible)? Or will I have to purchase a whole new headlight? All the vidoes I have searched are destroying the lens cover because they are replacing it. I can't find one on how to remove it and then put it back on. Thanks in advance for any help.
Welcome to the forum! The headlight does not have a lens cover that is removable. You have to remove the headlight housing in order to secure the angel eye bulb. Here are a few YouTubes on how to do it.
I had to replace that angle eye bulb assembly one time, its not that hard after you remove the headlight assembly.
I wish I would have seen that first video before doing mine because I didn't apply the blue tape and ended up scuffing up that area. Of the videos I found, not one used blue painters tape.
Thank you for the videos. I did see those, but they are only replacing the bulb. We removed the headlight unit from the vehicle, but was unsuccessful on how to repair the angel eye or put it back in place. The bulb is good and does work. The angel eye is just hanging out.
The angel eye bulb (also called the "parking lamp") is just part of the headlight assembly. My understanding is that your angel eye bulb assembly has fallen out of the headlight assembly. Is that correct? If it won't pop back in, perhaps the clip is missing or cracked. (It might also just need a quarter turn. I don't remember.) You will need to find a way to secure it somehow or you will need to replace the whole headlight assembly, and that part is not cheap!
Thank you, once again. Yes, you are correct. We are trying to figure out how to get to or reach the assembly to see if it can be popped back in or if we can secure it. Original thought was to remove the lens cover from the front to attempt to get to it. But I'm learning that the lens cover can't be removed. So I'm assuming it has to be reached from the back somehow. We just don't know how. From the back we can remove the bulb (as if we were going to change it) through a tiny space, but how do you get to the whole assembly? Or reach it so we can see if it can be popped back in?
It appears that the headlight is hanging forward. We don't know how to reach the parking lamp from the back of the headlight assembly. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
