My Ride: BMW 520IA E60 2003
Question Headlamp problems

Had to buy new headlamps for my bmw e60 520iA 2003 because mine had burned reflectors on the high beam. Bought them from germany ( on german ebay) and all was well until i noticed that the xenon bulbs didnt calibrate their hight. i touched the motor responsible for this action on the left light and it was extremely hot while the one on the right side was not. so i sent a mail to them and they said i had bought the wrong part for my vehicle and my warranty claim is invalid (ofcourse the site was all in german and on a small line i stood: "für Fahrzeuge ohne Kurvenlicht" or "for vehicles without bend lighting"that i didnt see, which is a really good translation). the only thing that is different is that my previous ones had adaptive headlamps and i could see the wiring inside the lamps is different.

Only reason i care is to get my car through the Compulsory vehicle control in EU, and then i need the height calibrating to work....

Anyone know if there is a fix, maybe rewiring?

The easiest solution I see from what you have stated is to simply purchase the CORRECT part and see if that resolves the issue.

Well yes, that was taken under consideration but as the price is very steep, i went with this solution. the 2 headlamps i bought now was almost twice as cheap as 1 original headlamp or if we go with not original i get 2 of the one i bought for 1 unoriginal. so the price is the determining factor.

have googled abit, and it seems the AHL(adaptiv headlamp) system is quite abit more advanced (at first glance) than i first thought. seems like i have too change some components as the light modul and stuff as well as recoding it.

It's up to you, but no one ever said maintaining a bimmer is cheap. I'd save myself the aggravation by just obtaining the right parts.

seems like the AHL control unit get signals from the steering column swtich, ride height sensors, position sensor, egs (electronic transmission control) sensor, rain light sensor and DSC sensor. all these give different inputs to the low beams for it to work properly. and the AHL control unit is also responsible for the headlight range adjustment.

"SMC: Stepper motor controllers The stepper motor controllers control the stepper motors in the headlights (for the automatic headlight-rangeadjustment and for the adaptive headlights). The stepper motor controllers are not capable of self-diagnosis.The stepper motor controllers are diagnosed and encoded via the control unit for adaptive headlights." and the SMC is placed under the headlamps on my original ones, but there is no slots for it on the new lights as these are not AHL

I tought about sending an emil to the nearest dealer and hear if it was possible.
Do you know if it's possible to code it without adding/removing more components?
