Hi,

Is it worth $1000.00 for HUD? Would you share some of your thoughts in regards to HUD. Thanks

Since you have to spend the $$ for the nav first, you definitely can use the HUD. I have the car less than a week and use HUD all of the time. :D Voice navigation instructions are nice for those that don't have HUD, but HUD is best way to know how fast you are going and where cruise control is set. Nav instructions on HUD are very good but take up a lot of the display real estate. The car is so quiet that it will take me weeks to 'feel' how fast I am going. HUD helps me keep speed down within reasonable limits without looking farther down to spedometer which takes longer to resolve down to the nearest mph.
Of the many expensive toys in my vehicle, the HUD was one of the most worthwhile since it gets used all of the time even though nav info won't be needed most of the time in my case. B)
As I posted earlier, there are two issues with HUD not mentioned by others... polarizing sunglasses effectively kill the display and if you are very tall or very short, you might not see the whole display. :(

sq530,

Thanks for your input. I figure that was the case.

this polarised glasses thing makes me laugh (since i don't have hud!!)...

i do have a different sunglasses problem, tho'... i wear vision-correcting specs, one set with the tint that gets dark in the sun/lightens up (you know the type...) anyway the tint in the e60 prevents them from working well... they do not get dark at all!

any glass will filter the uv rays that make photochromatic glasses darken, My wife has a pair that are unuseable in any car......they need direct sunlight.

I now use contact lenses so that I can switch between no sunglasses and sunglasses (not that the sun is a frequent visitor to scotland!)....kind of defeats the purpose of contact lenses and of course a HUD will not be seen!
