Head gasket compatability?? Help!
So I am pretty new to the BMW scene. I have a few sitting around: 745i, 325xi, 530i, 328i etc...
I ordered a head gasket/bolt kit for my 2002 325xi only to find out it was a failed cvv. (Bought it this way, ordered gaskets and decided to run a compression/leak down test and descovered a very healthy engine) Fast forward to my other car, a 2006 530i. It has a bad head gasket. I have found conflicting info on compatibility. Some sites say the kits are compatible, head bolts too... and some say they are different gaskets and bolts... they look exactly the same and i have no way of knowing. Does anyone know if these engines share the same head gaskets? I'd rather not return this set only to buy the same set. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance Vinny |
No, different motors. Your 325 uses an M54 engine while your 530 uses an N52 engine. Had your 530i been a 2005 or earlier, it would have used the same M54 engine, albeit an M54B30 instead of the M54B25 in your 325. 2006 and up 530i uses the newer N52, which has an 85mm bore versus the M54 84mm bore.
Unless of course your 530i somehow has an older transplanted engine or your 2006 is really a 2005. Go check the manufacture month and year on your door jam label. By the way I got all this info from wikipedia and realoem: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M54 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_N52 RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog |
Thanks very much, that is exactly what I was looking for. I've never heard of RealOEM.com before. Very good information . I did more digging and it is in fact a 06 and a different motor. N52b30
