I have a MY06 October build 550 with navigation, sat radio, premium sound (the works) and in my manual there is reference to HD radio capability. I was told by dealer this option was not yet ordeable, but I think it is on MY07s

Does anyone know if this is something I can order now? Any advise appreciated.

This is a patented, trademarked system that is available thru a licensing agreement with iBiquity. Here is their web site that u can use to see if this might be a good option for your area (probably since you are in SoCal).

Last week I asked my service technician if it would be possible to retrofit a 2006 E60 with the new HD radio. He said the parts are not yet available and he would have to look into the possibility.

If I hear anything I will post it.

From my understanding of the the Accessories Sales manager at the dealership when I ordered the 550i 2 weeks ago, it seems like the HD radio can be added on later just like the satellite radio. The reason being that he told me, if I ever changed my mind about either the satellite radio or HD radio, he could installed it for me through his deaprtment, but it will definitely cost a little more than when they are optioned with the order. However, the car being mentioned is a MY07 build, so things might be a little different since it might already come pre-wired for HD and Sat radio. You should contact the accessories department at your dealership.
