Hi,

I'm new to the forum having recently purchased a 525d M Sport.

I can't work out if I have a 2.5L or 3.0L. This questions isn't as stupid as it sounds, so I wonder if anyone can offer any help.

The car was registered in May 2007 and is a LCI model. I guess the first question is were any 2.5L LCI models made?

The V5 lists:

Cylinder Capacity - 2497CC
CO2 165 g/km
Max net power (kW) - 145

Although the CC is 2.5L, both the Co2 and kW point to a 3.0L

Any ideas??

I'm sure the 525d has a 3.0litre/six cyliner engine but with a smaller turbo/head etc.I'm sure other member's will clarify this.

Check these out.

So the question is, are you a 2007 or a 2008 precisely, To be Perfectly SURE, go here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do and enter your last 7digits of your VIN in the Serial Number. and Check what kind of engine you have

Thanks for the replies.

I'm still not sure, but after entering the VIN number, www.realoem.com states that I have a M57N2 engine. After some searching, there are references to a 2.5 and 3.0 unit. I'm thinking a trip to the main dealer may be the solution.

The 525d M Sport (LCi) is a 6 cylinder 24 valve 2993cc engine producing 145kW (197hp)and having 165g/km co2 (172g/km co2 auto).Your V5 is in error for some unknown reason.DVLA will only correct it if you obtain confirmation from BMW.
It is the 523i M Sport that has a 2497cc engine.

Thanks tooltec, I also believe the DVLA has made an error. I'll go and see the dealer tomorrow.

If it's an auto, has it got the silver toggle style shifter? If so, it ought to be the 3.0l version.
Also, the heater controls - an LCI has the Automatic ACC

The OP has confirmed he has an LCi model !
From his CO2 figure it is not an auto.
His V5 document is in error ,he HAS a 3.0L.

Smaller turbo isn't necessarily a bad thing.

On 535d LCI, they mount 2 turbochargers: a small one and a big one. It's a beast with a brutal torque (higher than most Ferraris) and no lag.

So I guess 525d uses something in between.
