So this week I took a business trip to Northern California with my car, on the way back (I left early) I was driving along the 152 Los Banos (you NorCal members know this area) and I got a message in the iDrive I had never seen before:

Outside Temperature is 37 degrees

Is this normal? Living in SoCal I have never seen this message before and when I got further along, and the temp rose, I never saw this again.
Thanks

Normal. The car warns that there might be (black) ice on certain spots on the road.

I get the message quite often especially at fall/spring time .

Ditto every day it seems here in blighty. When the temp drops to +3c and below its like they said, its to warn you of possible icy conditions

What isn't normal, PJ, is the fact that you see this message in SoCal!

Ice, I believe nearly any anomaly in SoCal can be expected regardless of how abnormal.

yes it happened to me on other cars when passing through mountains. just a reminder that the road could get icy. i drive on 152 often, there are some nice views and hills upthere. but when you get on the side of gillroy it smells like garlic

LOL Ice, that's why it was weird to me - I was in NorCal when I saw the message.
