alright, so i mounted my radar detector on the dash, but i havent wired it yet. i dont want it above my rear view. anyways, my question is... has anyone pulled out the footwell power hookup and hard wired it to those wires? thats how i had it hardwired in my maxima.
if not, i will do it and post my first DIY. but i hate to be the first. |
Are you using that power source (plug) for something else?
If not, why just plug it in directly? |
i just want to be able to use it if i can. that was the easiest option.
|
Where exactly is the footwell power source located? I tried to tap into the fuse block behind the glove box and couldn't find a hot wire that the fuse tap would fit on to.

use the sunroof power source...done that in 4 cars, works great!

Tap into the power wire of the 12 volt receptacle in the footwell. Run the wire from the detector to the top of the windscreen and tuck it into the opening al the way to the pillar molding down the pillar, and then over the top of the plastic cover of the footwell under the dash. I will post pics if you need.

This link is to a great step by step example of an installation of a V1 in an M5. They did a remote audio install as well.

My solution.
I installed my V1 without HARDWIRING, and without visible cables (all nicely tucked-in). I utilized the power socket located right above the front passenger's left foot. Will post pictures soon. It includes the concealed Display Unit (Optional Item) which I velcroed next to the tachometer(No visual warnings from the main V1). Very easy, no pro installer required. Attachment 81958 From the footwell socket. Attachment 81959 Attachment 81960 Tuck in flat cable neatly out of sight. Attachment 81961 Attachment 81962 Finally, plug into the V1 unit. |

Now for the optional Concealed Display.
Attachment 81963 From the footwell socket, go left towards driver side. Attachment 81964 Tuck in flat cable neatly out of sight. Attachment 81965 Pardon my dust :P . Attachment 81967 Attachment 81968 Attachment 81969 Finally, velcroed the concealed module. Voila! No visual from the main V1 (Dark Mode). Mute and Mode selection are controlled by the Control Knob on the Display (On-Off and Volume adjustments remain on V1). Of course this concealed unit is another option, V1 works great without it. Good luck! |
