E60 and "dated" doesn't go together It will stay like same induction magnets for at least its life span + 2-3 years as well as E39 nowadays. However, I can tell how LCI differs in a strikingly short moment, that's why BMW designers are considered the best in the world.

The E60 received a lot of critisism, from people that couldn't accept Bangle's design, when it first came. The new Audi A6 came out just after that and many people found it easer to get used to that design.

Now, a few years later, the A6 looks old and the E60 still looks fresh and modern. At least in my mind.
+1 I agree completely.

In my experience in life and business , swimming against the current has always reaped the greatest rewards! Damn Bangle if you want ,but he pursued a strategy that made alot of people uncomfortable about "our" Brand and in doing so, he helped redefine a new design language for the BMW brand and the automobile category.... thats leadership and that's a key reason we own them and the Brand is on fire!!

Cheers

ditto, the bangle design was a revolution to bmw 5 series. when it first came out, i was taken back by the design compared to the last generation. now, it has pretty much lead the industry or at least second to none. it looks like the sharp lines/edges are here to stay. just look at benz's latest model changes as well as the rest.

the e60 will probably look a bit aged going into the 2nd year f10 but it will remain to be thought of a foundation to bmw's future models.

You know, now that I think back to the 1st time I saw the new E60...I thought what a great looking car it was and how the design had "leaped" ahead. I was waiting in a valet que, and in pulled a brand new black E60...was stunning to say the least. And now, several years later, mine is coming - hmmm that 1st E60 must have left quite the impression

However, I still have a hard time with the trunk area of the 7 series...just can;t warm up to it.

I see many manufacturers "copying" the harder lines of the Bangle designs; even the boring Toyota Camry. In my mind, BMW led the industry away from boring to more exciting looks. With a few exceptions of course like Honda.

And then there are the new MBs which appear to borrow a lot of Cadillacs design cues......

When I first saw the E60, I thought: How could they do that? Noone will buy that strange car with its ugly headlights and odd lines!

Now I own one and I find it absolutely beautiful. That's true for most classics, they take some time to get used to. And the cars that look great the first time you see them, become boring after a year or so (plenty of examples in the mid-size sedan/SW range).

Now I'm not saying that the E60 will become a classic, or that it won't look a bit outdated in 10 years or so, but it'll probably still look good. Just like a E39 or even E34 still looks good to me when I see one.

Speaking of Bangle, I just saw a picture of the new Audi A4 Sedan. The A4 has the marked shoulder line that goes from front to end passing the door handles. It also has the line that goes along the lower part of the doors and ends in an upwards bend at the rear wheel just as on the 1-series. But no concave doors on the Audi.

The new Mercedes C class touring has some lines that looks like they have been carbon copied from the current 3-series.

The e60 remains a beautiful leading edge design. It has been joined by a host of imitators. The original is always better than the imitators. The e60 will look great for many years to come even when the F10 comes out in the opinion of this architect.
