Great news. I'm glad they made things right. It really makes me feel good about the marque.

I find it amazing how many people inc. BMW guys don't know what a 550 is. These cars are just plain fun to drive.

I'm sorry you suffered so much but IMO getting into the 550 was worth it, this car is way more car than my 545 was, good luck and enjoy the ride.

Just would like everyone to know that BMW replaced my troubled 2005 545 with a new 2007 550. I am very happy now and my trust in BMW has been restored. I would like to thank people from this board for your advice and support.
As people are talking about 550i here I'll throw in a couple of comments on mine and see if any of you guys have experienced any of these things in your own cars. I think they're ALL software related. Pretty soon cars will come with ctl-alt-del keys so you can reboot and be on your way..

The first problem: After having been driving for a couple of hours, and stopping at a traffic light, and put it in neutral (I have the 6-speed stick), I noticed a car revving up its engine but didn't think much of it (you know how quiet the car is inside). But the next time it happened I was just looking at the gages and noticed that the revving engine was mine. The car in neutral, my foot off the gas, but the car was revving to 1600 RPM up and down, up and down, and the consumption meter was pegging to 12MPG. It did this three or four times and then it settled to 600 or so RPM. So I started monitoring it. Sure enough, every time I stopped for traffic or a light, the same thing rev, rev, rev, rev and settle.
I have been monitoring it ever since and it has only happened if I've been driving for a while. Short drives do not present this "problem"
Has anyone else encounterd this problem? I'm making an appointment next week to see what the heck is going on.
I've had other issues like:
* Pinging, and I'm using premium gas (Super-Plus. All I ever use).
* Grabby brakes - you lightly touch them but they grab hard.
* A moody Comfort Access - doesn't always open/lock with touch (although key's fully charged).
* Trunk and one window have opened on their own, once each.
* NAV is so limited and with such a poorly designed/bad interface - but I guess everyone knows that. I was looking for an Esso station, and it had me going around in circles to three different ones and two of them were not even gas stations. Once telling me that the next was 4KM ahead on the road, but immediately asking me to take the next exit and having me go back 8 KM.
* iDrive that reverts back to the menu screen by itself losing the directions entered - It's happened a couple of times now.
Anyway, has anyone ot there encountered any of these problems?
Regards,
Santiago

This is a very interesting story. I'm a fairly patient guy, but I don't think I would have the patience you had. You did get a good result so you must have played it right. I'm glad to see that BMW will do the right thing when the problems are overwhelming. With my ED being in 6 weeks, I'm hoping to see a trouble free experience with my bimmer.
