So, I recently had my Indy change my oil and BMW oil was used as usual. I reset the Oil count and it went to 15000. Indy said I should do it every 7000 miles. If 7000 is correct (?), how do I lower the iDrive setting which defaulted to 15k when I reset it? At the moment I have a oil change sticker on the window which I never had to do before. This was my first oil change with my Indy. I figure before BMW was changing the oil so the made it 15k instead of 7k.

Mine said 17000 miles after BMW changed oil. Now after a while it says 15000. Don't worry, it will come down. A lot depends on the way the car is used and there is a sensor in the oil monitoring its condition.
My oil gets changed at the same time as the annual mandatory tests irrespective of mileage which is less than 7000.

Cool, so I'll just let it ride. I mostly do highway and don't drive it sometime for a week or two.

I had an oil analysis completed for the last oil change (15000 miles since the last one) a few weeks ago and the results from the test stated that I could have driven another 4000 miles based on the condition of the oil. That would have been close to 20,000 miles on the same oil, Castrol synthetic 5w30, based on my driving habits.

You can lower your intervals by using the scan tool from bavarian technic. You can see all services due and adjust. But if you dont wanna spend the money you can just change your oil twice a year or by mileage. Most oil change places are still on the non synthetic every 3K system, Since I have been on my own I just do a 6 month cycle so I dont have to worry about miles and I usually hit the 15k mark on idrive

No reason to burn money (Oil) lol. I'll just wait for 15k.

15K miles on Idrive doesn't always mean it's 15K miles odometer miles.
Idrive senses your driving style NOT quality of the oil in the engine (At least on 05 545i)
Idrive showed 8000 miles left from last oil change. I DIY my own oil w/ fresh new German Castrol, didn't reset Idrive.
Drove it for 500 odometer miles, Idrive went down to 6000.
So if you go on highway w/o traffic a lot then you probably could drive w/ that oil up to 15K odometer miles similar to what the Idrive says.
If you drive short distance or w/ a lotta traffic, your Idrive interval will go down a lot faster.
Mine came down from 15K to 6000K in about 4000 miles of odometer miles.
So w/ my driving condition, Idrive will remind me to change oil at 8-9K odometer miles which sounds abt right
