Did the facelift get a new auto transmission in place of the old ZF 6 speed? Is it now a 7 Speed? My dad has a post facelift 7 speed Merc E320 CDi and the transmission is far superior to that in my 530d.
Nope it's still a six speeder. Not sure if the entire gearbox is new or if it's just an significantly updated version of the 'old' one. I know that the shifter electronically interfaces with the gearbox rather than being mechanical.

In all autoboxes I've had in the past the 1st to 2nd shift was always noticeable. In the LCI E60 it isn't. My previous A4 with a 5 speed tiptronic alway felt as if there was a lot of 'slack' in the gearbox, if you planted the throttle the revs would increase but it didn't always translate into immediate forward motion. With the LCI E60 there's no noticable 'slack', though I do believe that the new LCI gearbox has a lock-up function that removes the slip normally found in an automatic gearbox.

Considering it's a diesel it's got a very pleasant growl from the engine when accelerating. I'm still in that 'honeymoon' period of owning a new car, but it is really very very good.

Thanks for all the positive comments.

It's just the normal auto transmission. The sport auto isn't available until June production. From what I've read the sport auto is basically the same box but with flappy paddles behind the steering wheel, plus it might have a more aggressive shift programme.

congrats!

smart move with the floot mats - what about going for black floot mats, to give it more of bi-colour feel, as well as having something that won't show ground-in dirt so quickly
