Anyone buy the Premium Pkg? Does it have "Logic 7" badges on the speakers like the "Harmon Kardon" badges used to? Just curious. I sure like the idea of the Premium Pkg, but $1800 USD is a tough pill to swallow.

Yes I made the same trade and decided not to order the Logic 7 because of the $1800 price. I find the standard system to be just fine. If it was priced at say $900, I would have purchased it. I can't image why BMW would price the sound upgrade at such a high price. I have the premium sound system in my Acura MDX and it only cost $800. It included a 6 disc changer that isintegral with the radio rather than having the changer take up space in the glove compartment. Poor pricing on the part of BMW. $1800 is 1/2 the price of the performance package...stupid!

I think it's ridiculous as well. It's just a way for them to get even more cash out of us. Because of the whole iDrive thing, we cannot just go to the local audio store and get a system installed. I think we can add a BMW changer for about $800-900, but even that's steep for a changer.
I am absolutely amazed what the new Acura TL has standard. 6 CD changer in dash, Satelitte radio, bluetooth, voice operation, etc. And 270 HP standard. I still went with the BMW because it's, well, a BMW.

My wife also has a MDX with premium sound. This particular factory Bose system for Acura is mediocre at best. I also listened to the TL XM radio 5.1 system during my visit to service the MDX. I was not impressed with the TL's sound system at all.
You're correct that BMW is charging too much ($1800) for a stereo upgrade. If the 5 come with a CD changer in the standard stereo, I suspect most people would not upgrade to the Logic 7.
I am ordering my 545 with premium sound, so I don't have to deal with CD changer installation and idrive integration.

IMO Logic 7 worth the money. I had premium sound on my previos Audi A3 that was Bose made. After Logic 7, that doesnt sound like premium sound anymore.
If you love a good sound in your car, you should at least listen to both systems before deciding to order it or not.

If the components are truly of a high quality (and Lexicon and Infinity Metal Matrix are good pieces), $1800 for a completely integrated DSP system with good gear is not a bad price. I don't know what the power output is, but if it's 6 or 7 discrete channels with DSP, an aftermarket system that can do all that would be very expensive, especially when you consider the effort that would be required to completely integrate the system into the car's electronic system, dashboard, etc.
Now, it won't win any IASCA or USAC competitions for SPL, but $1800 is still a pretty good price if the system is as good as people claim that it is. I haven't taken the time to properly audition an e60 with the Logic 7, but if you can really hear and feel the bass guitar strings vibrating from "Sorrow" on the Delicate Sound of Thunder live CD by Pink Floyd, then it's a pretty good system.
