Take it back, buy a used Pontiac GP, wait for the F10

or keep it and thrash the hell out of that 3 series!

Considering this latest development, if it were me, I would most def get out of the deal and either get a terrific deal on a 550 or wait for the F10.

Not sure I know the whole story - coming in late - but if what you purchased was a BMW Lemon buy back and you were not informed of this at time of sale by the dealer I would get BMW North America involved immediately. I also would not own a Lemon again. I did this with Audi and though they claimed car was corrected, it took several visits to the service department to get sorted out. Did not cost $ but did cost a lot of time and agrivation. Then when I went to sell/trade in, nobody wanted because of buy back status. Good luck, david

If you can work on a deal on a 550 then get it but so far the best I have seen them is in the high 30's with some miles on them. I am speaking of 2008 models since I like the new updates. I can steal a few 07 550's but I like the updates so it's worth the look. Even with all of these problems I am reading I am still considering a 535i.

Also if BMW has replaced the HPFP and your car is a buyback. They will repurchase the car without going through the lemonlaw if you push the issue. They know they have problems with this car and its easier for them to buy it back then to have so many lemons. There are a lot of pre-owned cars on the lots that are buybacks. BMW is aware of this and have made it so that if you purchase one of these you can get them to buy it back if another problem occures within a year.

I would speak to BMWNA about this but I know it exists.

Good luck with your decision as I know its hard for you. If you really love this car and it was the one that you want then its worth the wait. You are not out of a car and it's just a little longer to get it back.

Best of Luck..

Hmmm. It seems the 535 is a lot like the Xbox 360 in terms of failure rate, especially inthe hpfp issue. Luckily, my 535 has yet to go to the shop for anything other than scheduled servicing. It does have low mile though. In about 16 months it has maybe a little over 10k. Not sure if mileage would have anything to do with it since it sounds like these things are predestined to fail from day one.

I'm not good at negotiating, but from my experiences it seems some people could really work a stealing of compensation by having a dealer rebate a percentage of the money, give you a 535 as a replacement or loaner, or get some credit towards BMW accessories or something. Try and weasel something out of them. I'm not sure if I would skip over the 535 completely and go for a 550 or F10. I wonder how many people in here plan on getting the F10 like they suggested to you, since first gen of a MY tend to have kinks of their own. Who's to say the ttL6 or TtV8 won't have the same issues as well. Don't switch horses midstream. Stick with the 535 and try and get some compensation for the inconvenience. It can be done.

If you're a patient sort: Wait and get it fixed (although some members still had more problems and eventually got the car returned as a "lemon" - ask member Dbae). If you're like me and not very patient at all, return it and (if possible) upgrade to a 550 or M5. It's what I would do, fight with the dealer until they gave me a REALLY killer deal on a 550 instead - just me though. Good luck

My two cents, go for returning it and give them the option that they either take it back and move you into a 550 or something else of your choice or tell them you will pursue Lemon Law-Buy Back and go that route.

I know you got a smoking deal and maybe after this it will be fine, but the car now has a history of two major problems so if you ever go to sell it, the history will show its been problematic and for that reason, it might as well be a lemon. Unless you plan to keep it for 5 years or more.
