Its not a squeal sound but more like a reverberation. Like something vibrating. A low pitch vibration. Other times it sounds like a cow moaning. And no farms are nearby either. Ha.

It honestly sounds like the protection plate (see attachment, item 3) is reverberating!

There could be something in the pads that got caught from the road
My sensors needed to be replaced 3 times in one year!! That is until I got Stop Tech BBK's and no more issues...
Or possibly the protection plate like donpb stated above...

I love the performance aspect but have never had soooooo many issues with brake noise until I got my e60

How can I trace what is causing the noise? Its gotta be either the brakes, calipers or rotors, right?

Oh, at first it used to sound like a cow moaning but now its like a grinding type low humming noise. Help!
It's a bad material in the brake sensor. When time comes change your pads with a new updated sensor and your noise will be gone. (Provided you do brake pad change according to TIS)

Sounds good.

I don't recall seeing on the work invoice that the dealer even changed them.

I'll look into it.

Ok another thought just came to me. I feel it has something to do with the brake wear sensor for sure because the right-rear has a brake wear sensor and that's where I hear the sound. In addition; I feel the brake wear sensor is possibly touching the protection plate. I did not start to hear the sound until after my mechanic did an inspection on my car (brakes, calipers, etc). He may have inadvertently re-routed the sensor cable across the protection plate. I'll check it out and keep you all posted.

A caliper slide could be lose, or an anchor bolt. It could be the backing plate too, but unless you hit something in the road its really tough to bend/alter a backing plate. Hooch could be on to something with bad material, not only with the sensor, but sometime pads have a "hard" spot in them and it can take a few thousand miles for that "hard" spot to wear away.

Hey folks it ended up being the rear brake wear sensor. Thanks for the help.
