After enduring 33,000 miles of runflats, I finally got rid of them. The first 11,000 miles were on DunFLOPS that developed the ROAR and were replaced under warranty with Bridgestones. They were a significant improvement, so I ran with them until the right rear tire tread hit the wear limit bars.

Like so many other members posting here, I now wish I had replaced them sooner. The PS2's are much smoother riding and although the handling is "different", I think it is at least as good as what I had with the runflats. Most importantly, the rear end doesn't hop now while cornering over rough pavement.

My BMW finally rides like a BMW should. I cannot understand why BMW would make runflats standard equipment. They just are not complimentary to the car.

I got the PS2's at COSTCO and they did a great job of installing them at a price that can't be beat.

can you please help me to understand what's so bad about the runflats? is it degrading the performance of the car at the expense of convenience/safety?

My input: They are loud and very stiff. This is the second year I have welcomed putting my winter tires on because it makes the commute to work more enjoyable - be it at the risk of having to call a tow truck. I think others share my view and we do not believe this should be the case with a BMW.

I had Runflats on my 545 and they were absolutely TERRIBLE......... :thumbsdown:

They were loud, hard as a rock, and felt like my solid rubber tricycle tires of years gone by !

When i got the 550, the 19", even with a lower profile were far, FAR smoother.......wish i knew the difference would be that much, i would have ditched those lousy Rflats when i got the 545 a few years back

I'm a bit confused by your post. Did you replace the standard runflats with non-runflats, or did your car come with 19" runflats that were smoother than those on your 545?

Question for those who have replaced their runflats. Is the temporary spare that the Sport model have satisfactory if you do get a flat?

I have no any experience but there is no difference in the construction of the tire.
From the reviews I've read, seems like the winter RFTs (because of their stiffness) are loosy in grip/handling/braking, also very bad in comfortness and their scoring is about 50% lower than the non RFT version of the exact same brand tire. Talking about Goodyears and Dunlops, because they are making both versions of winter tires in 17" diameter, for 18" things are getting even worser

My 550 was ordered with 19" as part of the MPackage,

I was comparing the 18" runflats on the 545 with the 19" on the 550......

Not a very scientific comparison, but i did notice quite a difference.......

Replaced grotty Dunlop rft'S with Michelin PS2 from Costco (wonderful store!). The car is transformed.

That's good info, thanks. I plan on ordering a 550 when they announce the facelift (with the stock sport package 18's), and was strongly considering allocating some dollars for replacement rubber (to get rid of the runflats). Sounds like the 550 runflats doesn't have the harshness the 545 had.
