My Ride: 2007 530i. Purchased 6/28/07. Titanium Silver Metallic, Black Dakota Leather, Dark Poplar Trim, Steptronic, Premium Package, Cold Weather Package, Bluetooth, Adaptive Control Xenons. 10/30/07 Added OEM 124s with 245/40/18 & 275/35/18 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires. My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.
I would disregard a Lexus!
Especially with recalls happening right now and my aunt used to own one - an ES - and the ride just sucked!
As Clarkson said on his show, "Having a Lexus is like having a punctual girlfriend"! No other fascinating element! She's not sexy, cute, pretty or interesting to talk to! She's just punctual!

Personally, I would go with the BMW 330XI. What the OP loses in interior roominess he will make up with a car that's better handling and more tossable. The assumption for many is that a 3 series is a "poor man's BMW." Not true at all. The 3 series can still get up to well into the $40's depending on options. You choose a 3 series vs. a 5 series based on your driving style and how much room you need. If I could afford it, I would have both. Oh, wait a minute, I actually have both. When I want comfort I usually take the 5 (which it's just about every day) and when I want to go on a curvy, twisty road, such as going to the top of Mt. Washington I definitely take the 3. Fun, fun, fun!!!

I'd go for the Audi. It's going to be the closest thing to your BMW in the driving experience part. The handling of Audi's have been getting just better and better.
