Goodbye Dunlop RunFlats - Hello Proper Tyres
#1
Well, I finally ditched the Dunlops today. 12,000 miles and the rears were already down to the minimum. But this was a good excuse to fit non-run-flat PS2s, and the difference is night and day. No more crashy ride, no more tramlining and no more shimmying. I now have a ?30+k car that behaves like a ?30+k car.
This wasn't before I'd given the BMW dealer some serious ear-ache on countless occassions. But they just refuse to acknowledge any problem.
BTW, for any fellow run-flat sufferers thinking about taking the plunge, ATS are doing a 4-for-3 deal at the moment. So I got four new shoes for ?580. Not bad.

All we need is a full size spare - like in the olden days

Bargain - runflats are a completely stupid idea as are space saver spare wheels.

I think it's a great idea, but runflats haven't made it as good as regular tires yet. If the comfort, handling, and noise level are as good as regular tires, I won't mind using runflat at all, even paying a little extra.

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
I'm beginning to wonder if the only Dunlop RFs being dispensed (not sold) are the replacements, every 12K miles.
I guess I'll be tempted to go for the warranty replacements; but on the other hand, I hate them so much, I'll probably shrug them off and go with PS2s.
jeers,
Ray Hull

Changling to PS2's from the Dunlop runflat absolutely transformed my car. It now just feels connected to the road. The steering is where I notice the difference most. Too bad runflats could not have been made an option.

My car came equipped with Conti Sport Contact 2 run flats (Do they put Dunlops on the US cars and Contis on the Canadian cars?). I am wondering if anyone has experience with the Conti, sounds like PS2s are fantastic, but the run flats have saved me twice in the last 4 months - one nail and one frozen valve stem...

Although I don't like runflats now, but I don't think it's a stupid idea at all.

Unfortunately, it just sounds as if they are not as good as trad tyres so the 'perceived' advantage just ain't there.
But even with this, it's still not as good as a full sized spare which would let you continue with your journey and drop into the tyre fitters at your convenience.
And space savers - don't get me started on those little 50mph pram wheels .. rant rant rant.
Anyway - what about tweels ??
Good idea - but they look kind of stupid

I'm leasing and dumped the original Goodyear Eagle NCT5 RFTs for the Continental ContiSport Contact 2.
If you are looking for more confort without any compromise in drving pleasure believe me it is worth it. Is is like dumping the shoes and putting the snickers
