Well: after spending over $5000 dollars on my 2004 545i, I have to say goodbye. My milage was 84000, and I just have no faith that this car will take me the next 4 years without significant costs. Tired of the constant warnings, andwaiting for the next problem. Replaced the idrive computer, several sensors, alternator, fuelpump, tierod, etc...
I also knew that it was now or never to get anything out of this car for what I owed. These cars depreciate for a reason....they are not reliable. I got $13000 out of it, and bought a brand new Ford Focus for $16000. Has the Sync system which is awesome...and gets 40mpg on the highway. I finally realized what a waste of money it is to spend on these cars as great as they are to drive...I have enjoyed this forum and appreciate all the great posts.....I will miss my car, but can now use my money toward retirement, and putting it to a better use....take care all!

Good luck - I just want to comment that we pay for the driving experience, aside from maintenance, etc.

being that you bought a first year production car, the odds werent in your favor. plus did you know the history of the car?
my 06 550 is pushing 100k, with only a few minor problems had. :knock on wood:
i've had a few bmw's go into the 100k+ range and never had a major issue.

I am sorry you had so many issues, but I completely understand - have fun with a car that doesn't need a laptop to perform simple friggen upgrades, haha.

Sorry you had a poor experience. All I can say is Ive had the complete opposite experience. I just rolled 107k on my 04 545i with no issues. Only major replacement has been the clutch at 100k, and I had that done at an independent shop for only $1200. Good luck with the focus though, they seem to have gotten some high reviews on the newer models.

Poor guy, but its a BMW! Buying a car that old and possibly not knowing the history was a huge mistake. Plus, if you are throwing in the towel at 5k than you shouldve never come to this side of the house... Good luck with the Ford!
