After 16 months of nagging problems and service visits I am getting rid of my 545i.When it is working it is the best car I have ever driven. But frequent problems with software, transmission, rattles and now engine components are too much to deal with.

I use my car frequently and I am currently at 27,000 miles. The thought of being out of warranty on this car next year is frightening. The extended warranty is expensive and does not cover electronics.

This is a great board and I'll probably drop in once and a while to see what's up. The 5 series is a great car but I need relaibility more than I need performance.

Good Luck to all!

The extended warranty your dealer sells will not cover iDrive item issues? I know that concearns most of us. I thought it did? Most 'after market' warranties will try to exclude it and that makes it not worth it.

I dont Know... I knew I remembered a catch to the BMW extended warranty tho. I know there was a reason why I thought it wasnt a good deal.... And I do believe it was somthing to do with it not covering somthing. UNlike the BMW 4 year warranty where it coveres almost EVERYTHING...

I'm not shopping for the extended warranty just yet but I know I'll LOOK VERY VERY VERY hard to make sure its worth it before getting it.

hmm...very strange, i hope this isnt the case, or i'd re-think the purchase and consider a lease as i would never buy either E60 or E63 without full coverage, they are too risky in terms of the electronics...but im thinking it has to cover everything, sort of like a CPO warranty covers 6/100 everything,... i'll will find out wed nite...

I Sooooooooo hope you're right... Cuz I dont want a $2500 warranty that doesnt cover the electronics! But then again if threre is a warranty that covers everything it might cost $4500! and for that money for 2 years extra eeeeeeek

we had a similar discussion a long time ago. be careful we're talking about the extened service plan, which covers maintenance but not major items like electronics, engine or transmission. that is covered by a seperate extended warranty. with out know the details to back it up, I would find it hard to believe that a real, full extended waranty wouldn't cover electronics as well. if doesn't, guess i'll be looking to trade in my car in a couple of years...

yeah, i have no idea what is what, but i intend to find out before i make any decisions, its just not possible to have these cars w/o a warranty, sort of makes you wonder how the resids will look like on these cars 8-10 years out when there is no possible warranty for these major items, and old electronics = bad situation, as so many see with their cars, and these are new!!!... i hope BMW knows what they are doin' with all these electronics...

When I bought my car new, I wanted to have extended warranty because I was able to hit 100K in less than three year. 6yr/100K costs ~$3K with $200/$250 deductible. We passed it.
Lexus 6yr/100K costs $1000 with $0 deductible.
