Thanks for all the kind words. While I agree that the E550 is certainly does not drive like my 550i, it does handle relatively well - particularly in the sport mode. I must say I will really miss the HUD and Active Steering of my car. They are both great options and I highly recommend them to anyone.
I intend to stay connected to the site. Who knows - in 3 years when my lease is up and all the kinks have been worked out of the F10, there might be a twin turbo V-8 in my garage.

The lease on my '07 550i is coming due in about 5 weeks and I've decided to get a 2010 E550 to replace it. I struggled mightely with the decision but I didn't want the 2010 550i which is pretty similar to my car and I didn't want the F10 in the first couple of years of production. I test drove the Jag XF as well but thought the MB drove better.
While the E550 doesn't handle the twisties anywhere near as well as my 550i sport, overall it handled pretty well and it is pretty quick. I would say that it is quicker off the line than my 550i. It is loaded with electronic toys (a weakness of mine) and I should be getting it in about 7 weeks.
I'll miss participating on this forum as I think it is the best owners forum out there!!!

You understand the handling differences between the E550 and the BMW 550 so you are making an informed choice. MB E550 is faster in a straight line but BMW 550 has superior handling (hence the BMW 550's trouncing of the E550 in the recent Loveland Pass climb comparo in Motor Trend). My neighbor has a brand new E550 with the AMG package in our building's parking garage and it looks quite handsome -- more conservative looking than BMW 550 but totally classic and elegant MB look IMHO.
GL with the E550 and use it well.

Enjoy the E550. It should feel a bit faster than the BMW 550 because its engine produces more horsepower and torque (382 bhp and 391 lbs-ft of torque in the E550 vs. 360 and 360 in the BMW 550), its engine is larger than the BMW 550's engine and it generally does a bit better than the BMW 550 in acceleration tests from the car mags.

Thanks! I have ordered the AMG/Sport package as well. You are correct in that I understand what I'm giving up and what I'm getting. I guess it was just a value judgement in the end in being willing to give up some handling/driveability in exchange for a different car. Maybe this will force me to take those turns slower - the 550i sport certainly spoils you.
