The lease on my '07 550i is coming due in about 5 weeks and I've decided to get a 2010 E550 to replace it. I struggled mightely with the decision but I didn't want the 2010 550i which is pretty similar to my car and I didn't want the F10 in the first couple of years of production. I test drove the Jag XF as well but thought the MB drove better.

While the E550 doesn't handle the twisties anywhere near as well as my 550i sport, overall it handled pretty well and it is pretty quick. I would say that it is quicker off the line than my 550i. It is loaded with electronic toys (a weakness of mine) and I should be getting it in about 7 weeks.

I'll miss participating on this forum as I think it is the best owners forum out there!!!

I agree. This is without a doubt the best forum out there. Other car forums and even other BMW forums are full of tool bags. But anyway, back to the merc. How dare you!?! j/k. The E550 is a great car but you will without a doubt return to BMW

I went through the same process recently but decided to go with 2010 BMW550. I do realize that it will be essentially the same car as my 2007 and I've changed as much as I could: exterior color, aluminum instead of wood, sport auto (would get it anyway) all that trying to get a new car feel.

I drove both E-class and XF and did not like them at all. I even tried XFR, which was very quick and handled (very similar to BMW) well sans the steering feel.

Honestly though I just could not give up BMW driving feel and to a certain extend BMW image. No disrespect intended but I do not understand how MB handling can be called "good". The thing just did not want to turn when I wanted it to do it. It was like the road is by itself, the car is by itself and I am by myself. Not my cup of tea.

BTW 2010 E60 is getting a new CIC 4.0, which should be on par with the best in car entertainment systems out there.

Yes, F10 will make my car obsolete but I had a pretty bad experience with my 2005 545 and 2010 550 is still the best driver's car out there (same price range of cource), so I went with it.

Congratulations on your E550, it is one beautiful car!

<<Yes, F10 will make my car obsolete...>>

I actually disagree with this part. One of the things I'm thankful for is that the F10 still has the same basic design language as the E60. It's more of an evolution compared to the revolution between the E39 and E60. Sure, BMW fans will know, but most folks won't. Not that something like this is that important to my feelings of well being, but it certainly is nice.

I parked next to a brand new Merc E sedan the other day, not sure which specific one, and I still liked my car more. It was definitely a lot more stylish.

No disrespect intended to the OP though! It's a wonderful car. Weird compliment: Love the smell of a Mercedes interior. Odd that it's still the same exact smell as the models that came out over 30 years ago, but it is. Very distinctive.

Congrats on your new ride. Why stop participating on this forum? You know as well as anyone that once the F10 has its initial little bugs taken care of you'll be back in a BMW. Mights as well keep abreast of things. G/L with the new car.
