Get a small battery tender to keep battery topped up letting any car battery loose its charge will shorten its life plus the e60 electronics will not be thankful either.

yes.

I keep all of my cars on a Battery Tender when they are not in regular use. I haven't driven my E30 in about a month, it has been on a battery tender the entire time.

Is there any wireless (portable) battery tender type that does not require power outlet.

If you are leaving the car outdoors, a small solar panel (2-3 watts) might do the trick. The battery would then be charged during the day only, which practically mimicks normal use. Just make sure that you install any trickle charger on the posts in the engine compartment and NOT on the battery itself.

Service battery,... You mean they connected another 12V battery to car's terminals before removing the old battery?
