Has any gone from 330i manual to 525i manual? I know that the new 3.0 liter engine has 215HP, which is only 10HP less than my 330i, though 525i is somewhat heavier. I test drove a 2005 model with the older engine, and it felt significantly slower.

Kinda bad move imo especially if we are talking about the magnesium block 3 liter.

I suppose you mean your a stepping up from a E46 330i to a E60 525i?

E60 is a much nicer car than the E46 but you loose some speed but gain a lot of comfort
and style.

The 525i is a really, really nice car, congrats!

PS. Why in the world would you like a stickshift?

don't do it if you are into driving. the drop in power and increase in weight will be a bummer. I drove the 530 before getting a 545 steptronic and now a 550 with SMG. The 530 is great. I was unhappy with steptronic - feeling that v8 was optimized with more driver control. But the steptronic WAS the best automatic I have ever driven .

I'd say 530 - the 5's are great. Good luck.
