most diesels today have quick glow plugs, so that there is no need to wait. just turn the key, and start.

Glo plug are ultra fast these days...Diesel have made a lot of progress.
Nevertheless, if weather is very cold, you will see an inductor sign on your dashboard and when you will push start...start will take place only when sign disapears ..which still takes like less than 2sec...

Wow...just realised the multiple posts saying "anyone?"...I posted that using my phone's web browser and it kept coming up with an error message and didn't show the page as updated so I tried again. I wasn't trying to spam the thread in case someone thought I was.

I'm pretty sure that the glowing starts as soon as you open the car, not just when you push the start button. Only if you are able to very quickly open the car, get in and start it, will you see the glow indicator in the dashboard.

How I've come to know this? Well, I had a habit of checking that the car was locked each evening I went to bed. I pressed the close button on the FOB, would see the interior light turn on, and press the close button again.

Worked like a charm, but after 20 months the battery would show the 'high discharge' error after only a couple of days of not driving. Went to the dealer and he updated the software, replaced the battery and told me a story how the car would strangely 'wake up' every night, which would drained the battery, especially with a diesel car...
In short, I didn't tell him about my habit, but did change it!

As a final little-known fact: the start-stop button lights up when you try to open the boot, also when the car is locked. I suspect that this also triggers the glow plugs.

I suppose that makes sense as the car has ample time to do the glow plugs if it is triggered by the door opening. Today was really cold and there was no delay at all from pressing the start button.
