I keep mine up for at-a-glance placement but other than that I use my iphone4 for all navigation purposes...
I hope the new M6 convertible has better gps (I want that in a couple years as my next car)

If you have a smart phone either iPhone or Android, get the WAZE app. It's free and powerful.

If you knew the actual address, did you try to punch that in directly? I find that works better. In fact in my X5 with CIC I just had to do that. I was returning from KY to SC and on I-75. I knot ices a Winery posting but missed the exit number from the sign. I only remembered it said 20 miles. I searched in the points of interest and there are a couple of options. At location or destination. Well in my case it was neither. So I chose the google selection through the nav system and still could nt find it. The winery was actually in the next town 10 miles away but the nav was looking in the current town. Finally I just googled it in my handy dandy iPhone and punched in the actual address and all was ok. I sometimes wonder the logic behind the POI's...

+1, I use WAZE & GPS NAV2 on my iphone 4s. I really only use my e60 Nav for road trips to Cali or Northern AZ (Sedona, Flagstaff). Other than that I keep it in Perspective mode with all of the red light & speeding cameras showing . It works perfect for that!!

Agree completely - built in navigation needs a complete overhaul. They go stuck in the 80's and forgot that everyone has nav on their phone, ipad etc these days. These built in systems don't even offer speed cam warning etc.

Personally, I stick with my Tom Tom (even though I have car nav). When I get to an unfamiliar city, I take the TT out and put it into walking mode and it also navigates right to my destiantion.

My problem with the navi is that it is terribly slow. I can be waiting up to a 1 min before the CPU in the car figures out the next step.
There has to be a way to speed it up. There is no way that this was normal back when it was new. I'm thinking I need to shut something off so the computing power is focused on the navi.

Anyone know of a way to speed it up?

The 2010's have the new idrive. Is the navi different than 2004-2009 because of this? My prior e60 didn't have it but my 2010 does. We really like the split screen view to show the map on the left and directions/roads/exits on the right. We like it better than the Garmin.
